{"id":1867,"date":"2014-03-24T17:41:54","date_gmt":"2014-03-24T21:41:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/daytonoldies.org\/?page_id=1867"},"modified":"2022-08-21T19:27:15","modified_gmt":"2022-08-21T23:27:15","slug":"tony-peters","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/daytonoldies.org\/?page_id=1867","title":{"rendered":"Tony Peters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>N<a href=\"https:\/\/daytonoldies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/WSWOLinerParty_20140308_0090-trim.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1893\" src=\"https:\/\/daytonoldies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/WSWOLinerParty_20140308_0090-trim-1024x803.jpg\" alt=\"Tony Peters\" width=\"423\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/daytonoldies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/WSWOLinerParty_20140308_0090-trim-1024x803.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/daytonoldies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/WSWOLinerParty_20140308_0090-trim-300x235.jpg 300w, https:\/\/daytonoldies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/WSWOLinerParty_20140308_0090-trim.jpg 1087w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 423px) 100vw, 423px\" \/><\/a>ame:<\/strong> Tony Peters<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Airshift:<\/strong>\u00a0Mondays, 10a to 2p<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where did you grow up?<\/strong> \u00a0 I was born in Dayton, but moved to Cleveland at an early age, then North Carolina, then back to Dayton (whew)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who were your earliest influences?<\/strong>\u00a0 Casey Kasem and Kid Leo at WMMS in Cleveland.\u00a0 Being a kid in the Seventies and listening to the fantastic stations in Northeastern Ohio played a huge role in wanting to be a DJ.\u00a0 There was a great station in Raleigh, NC &#8211; WQDR, that always sounded like they were having fun.\u00a0 I wanted to get in on it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was your first radio job?\u00a0<\/strong> WTIK-AM in Durham, NC.\u00a0 Made famous in the movie Bull Durham.\u00a0 They played REALLY OLD country music.\u00a0 I did weekends, and was the Traffic Director while in high school.\u00a0 Learned a lot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other notable stations?<\/strong>\u00a0 WCHL-AM (Chapel Hill, NC), WASU-FM (Boone, NC), WXQR-FM (Jacksonville, NC), WTUE-FM (Dayton), and WING-FM (Dayton).<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you like about working on the radio?\u00a0<\/strong> I\u2019ve always felt that radio is the most intimate media.\u00a0 People can take radio with them to places TV still can\u2019t go &#8211; jogging, in the shower, driving.\u00a0 I love talking and interacting with the listeners and being part of a community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you dislike about working on the radio?<\/strong>\u00a0 I hate that computers have killed so much of the personality that radio once had.\u00a0 Most radio stations are automated, and very few have live DJs.\u00a0 And, a lot of stations are cookie-cutter copies of ones all over the country.\u00a0 That\u2019s what\u2019s attracted me to Oldies 97.3 &#8211; we have live DJs, AND we don\u2019t sound like any other station anywhere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you do when you\u2019re not volunteering at Oldies 97.3?<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m s Stay at Home Dad, who takes care of the cooking, cleaning, and running kids from here to there.\u00a0 I sing and play several instruments including guitar, bass, &amp; drums.\u00a0 I\u2019m also an avid record collector (I have a very patient wife).\u00a0 I also like to jog, I just don\u2019t do it enough.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What might people be surprised to know about you?<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve wanted to be a DJ my whole life.\u00a0 I\u2019m truly one of the lucky ones that became \u201cwhat he wanted to be when he grew up.\u201d\u00a0 There are tapes of me as a wee little kid playing DJ.\u00a0 They\u2019re embarrassing.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like a full listing of Tony&#8217;s &#8220;Sunday Night Music and Conversation show; go here:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.IconFetch.com\">http:\/\/www.IconFetch.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Name: Tony Peters Airshift:\u00a0Mondays, 10a to 2p Where did you grow up?
