John Bennett shows
John Bennett’s radio career began in his bedroom with his
records and the weather forecast clipped from the newspaper as
he tried to sound like the great Top 40 DJs of the time. After
college he went to LaPorte, Indiana, one of the most remote radio
outposts in the United States, to begin his career as a news
anchor/reporter. He later moved to Dayton to join the late, great
WAVI/WDAO in their final months on the air.
John’s career took many twists and turns through the worlds of
media buying, business newspaper writing and editing,
communications, public/media relations, advertising, and
marketing. Now at Oldies 97.3, he has returned to his first love,
radio. Thanks to the great staff at the station, he was able to learn
how computers, automation, and digital files have replaced the
vinyl, turntables and tape cartridges of long ago.
The music of the 50s, 60s, and 70s still sounds great, and John is
having more fun on the air than he can describe. Join him on
Thursday afternoons on air or online as we keep the great music
of the era alive!
